Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India. He was born on October 2, 1904 in Mughalsarai town situated in Uttar Pradesh.
He gained admission in Harishchandra High School in Benaras. He was a brilliant student. Lal Bahadur was very much influenced by the powerful speeches of Lokmanya Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi. At the mere age of 17, he joined freedom movement and was arrested for protesting against the British rule.
In the year 1927, he got married to Lalita Devi. Lal Bahadur was thrown into prison in the year 1930 and 1932 also. He spent nearly 9 years in the prison. In 1964, Lal Bahadur Shastri was appointed the Prime Minister of India after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Lal Bahadur Shastri died due to massive cardiac arrest on 11 January 1966 when he was away in Tashkent (U.S.S.R.) to sign the cease-fire treaty with Pak president Gen. Ayub Khan.
