Farmer Ogilvy was a very serious man. And everyone at his farm remained serious always too! They were all very business-like–they did their work, ate their food and slept–everything in complete silence. One day, Esmeralda arrived. Esmeralda was a large goose who loved to hide things. She would pick up anything and hide it. The cook was hunting for a cake tin. The farmer’s glasses were lost. “I can’t find my apron,” said the puzzled cook. “And my duster is missing!” said the parlour maid. “My scarf seems to have vanished too!” exclaimed the dairy maid. Everyone began to search for his missing thing. In Esmeralda’s pen they found all the things that she had been collecting! For a minute everyone thought Farmer Ogilvy would be furious. Suddenly he laughed…..and soon the farm echoed with laughter! Never again was anyone serious there. And if anything went missing, they went to Esmeralda!
