Lemon verbena is a herbaceous perennial woody shrub. It produces shiny lanceolate green leaves that have a strong aroma (without crushing) and taste of lemon. The plants grow up to 10-15 feet tall in the tropics, but in containers it grows only 2-4 feet tall. It is sensitive to cold, losing leaves at temperatures below 0°C. The leaves are strongest at the time of flowering. The leaves and the flowers are used for culinary purposes (teas, desserts, fruit salads and jams), for perfumes and cosmetics, for potpourris and as herbal medicines (colds, fevers, dyspepsia and diarrhoea).
