15 to 30 mm in length, the larva is only 2 mm long, but it is the larva and not the adult that causes so much damage to plants including fruit and ornamental plants. The female lays about 50 eggs in her entire lifetime. These eggs are laid on leaf and branch junction individually. Once the larvae hatch, they bore into the wood through the stems and branches wilting and killing them. The adult, however, feeds on pollen and nectar.
