Lighting A Fire With Water (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

  1. Potassium permanganate
    (your mother probably
    has it in the kitchen)
  2. Glycerin
  3. Water
  4. Dish
  5. Tablespoon

Another way to amaze your friends is to ask them to try lighting a fire with water. They cannot use matchsticks either. Show your friends this cool trick which is nothing but chemistry.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take about 2 tablespoonfuls of potassium permanganate and 5 ml
of glycerin, and mix it very gently
    in a dish.
  2. The two ingredients can create a fire
on their own, but it takes a little time. However, be careful.
  3. To speed up the process, simply ask an adult to add a few drops of water to the mixture.
  4. Be very careful while handling fires.

RESULT

The mixture will go up in flames the minute it comes into contact with
water. However, do not mix and keep
the glycerin and permanganate mixture
for long, as the potassium permanganate is such a strong oxidant that it burns glycerin.
