Abe was walking though the fields on his way home one evening. He could hear the low rumble of thunder in the distance, and looked up to see a flash of lightning. ‘Phew, that lightning seemed really close,’ he thought. He knew that it would be safest for him to take shelter. But the only shelter was a tall tree about twenty feet to his left. Before he could move towards it, a flash of lightning struck the tree, slicing it in half! Abe knew that the lightning could strike him at any moment! He could feel his hair stand on end. He immediately crouched down low, balanced on his toes and covered his ears. This time the lightning struck right at his feet, but though his feet felt tingly, he was safe! He quickly ran across the field to the safety of his house. Never had he thought that he would survive being struck by lightning!
