Lost in the Mine

Lost-in-the-Mine

Mason was an old man who had worked in the mines all his life. In fact, the other miners often said, “It is not a mine till old Mason has been in it!” One evening, Mason had just finished eating his supper, when his phone rang. “Mr. Mason, we need your help! A young boy had wandered into the mines the night before, and hadn’t come out.” Mason quickly entered the mines and started tracking the route the child had taken. He found a toffee wrapper, then a handkerchief. However, the trail suddenly seemed to disappear. Mason saw that the wall of the mine had caved in, blocking his path. He carefully removed boulders from the top, creating a hole big enough to squeeze through. The boy was at the other side, and quickly scrambled through the hole. He thanked Mason again and again, and promised never to wander into mines alone!
