Louis Joliet was born on 21st September 1645 in Quebec, Canada, and he died in May 1700 (aged 55 years) in Canada. Louis was a Canadian explorer who explored the origin of the Mississippi river with the help of Native American tribes, he embarked on this expedition with Jacques Marquette and became one of the first Europeans to explore the Mississippi river. On the way back, Louis took a short cut along the rapids of Lachine where he was almost drowned.
Do you know: Louis became famous by late 17th century for his expeditions from which official regional maps were created. He had become a professor of hydrography in the University of Quebec for some years before he died.
