The Louvre Museum was built on the right bank of the Seine, Paris, France, as a fortress in the 12th century and achieved its current form by 1874. During the French Revolution it was decided that the palace would be used as a museum. In the 1980’s, the iconic glass pyramid outside the Louvre was constructed. The museum houses almost 35,000 antiquities ranging from prehistoric times to the 21st century. It is considered the world’s most visited museum.
Amazing Fact: Under Napoleon’s rule, the Mona Lisa was taken out from the museum and hung in his private bedroom!
