Louvre

The Louvre is a historic monument and also the world’s largest museum. The Louvre is located in Paris, France. This museum was built as a fortress in the late 12th century. It was only in 1793 that the place was reopened as a museum.

Why it is special: The second most visited museum in the world, the Louvre received more than 15,000 visitors a day. When it had opened as a museum, most of the artwork displayed were works of royals and confiscated church property. Over the years, the works of art increased at the Louvre creating a sizable collection of more than 35,000 art pieces and 3,80,000 objects that are bifurcated into different departments like Egyptian antiquities, Greek and Roman antiquities, Islamic Art, decorative arts and sculptures, etc. The unmistakable glass pyramid in the front of the Louvre building is an iconic part of the city and art world.
