A few years ago, at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100 metres race. At the fire of the gun, they started with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. One little boy among them stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy crying and slowed down to look back. Rather than winning the race, they all went to soothe him. One girl with Down’s syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, “This will make it better.” Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line. Everyone in the stadium applauded for them that gave them real triumph. Thus they set an example for all who were present there.
Moral : To please your surroundings is never less than to get the trophy in a race, even if you slow down in real competitions.
