Lovers of the Banu Tai

Qasim, the son of Adi, wished to identify himself with the man of the Banu Tamim. The latter once went looking for an estray and came across the waters of the Banu Tai and found two people disputing with each other.

He observed them closely; a youth from one company was a wornout dried-up water crying out. He was looking for love and was thus badly sick. This was heard by a damsel of the other company and hurried towards her and confronted her company people. The two embraced each other and fell dead upon the ground.

Then came an old man, and he buried them together in one tomb. When the man of the Banu Tamim, who was observing this all, asked him who he was to bring the two lovers after deaths, he replied that the girl was indeed her own daughter, while the boy was his brother’s son. So he asked then why he didn’t marry them before this dispute that led them to deaths. He repented he earlier feared shame and dishonour.
