Prince Daniel was very shy. He had loved Kate, his playmate, for many years, but hadn’t told her. ‘I wish there was something I could do to show her that I love her,’ thought Daniel. One day when they were out riding, Kate’s horse saw something moving in the grass and bolted! Kate was hanging on, but she was terrified! Daniel spurred his own horse and galloped after her. The runaway horse headed for the forest. ‘She’ll be hit by the low branches!’ thought Daniel as he raced after it, ‘I must catch them before they reach the forest!’ Just before they reached the edge of the forest, Daniel caught the horse’s bridle and dragged it to a halt. Kate slid off the horse and sat down on the grass, trembling with fright. “What’ll I do without you, Daniel?” she said. “I’ll be there always, Kate, for I love you!” said Prince Daniel finally.
