Lungfish

The Lungfish or Salamander Fish is a freshwater fish with a highly evolved respiratory system and lives on land, without water, for months, even years. Lungfish have elongated bodies and pelvic fins which they use to swim. They generally inhabit shallow waters, such as swamps and marshes. When the dry season hits, the Lungfish burrows itself deep into the mud, digging a path by taking mud into its mouth and forcing it out of its gills. For its hibernation, the Lungfish will reduce its metabolism and live off the muscle tissues in its tail. Lungfish are found only in Africa, South America and Australia.
