One day, the horse reached Valmiki’s ashrama. Kush and Luv saw the gorgeous horse and were thrilled. They promptly caught the horse and tied it to a tree. They saw the declaration tied around its neck and waited for the horse’s guards to arrive. Soon the troops arrived. They were annoyed to see the horse tied to a tree, but when they saw the two boys, they laughed thinking it was just a boyish prank. They asked the boys to return the horse. “Why should we give you the horse?” asked the two of them, “We are not illiterate. We read the declaration tied on the horse’s neck. If you want the horse back, you will have to battle with us!” No persuasion worked with the youngsters. Finally, the soldiers got angry and shot arrows at them. The boys were delighted to enter into a battle and in turn, shot their arrows too.
