Maan, Son of Zaidah

Maan bin Zaidah was fond of hunting animals and birds and chasing wild animals. One day he was on a hunting trip with his soldiers and felt thirsty. There was no water with him or with any of his soldiers. Suddenly he saw three damsels going his way with three skins of water.

Shahrazad perceived the dawn and stopped narrating the story.  The next day, she continued. The three girls carrying the three skins of water met Maan, the Son of Zaidah. He requested the damsels to offer water to him. They readily agreed to do so.

After quenching his thirst, he wanted to give the dam-sels some money in return for water. But neither he nor his soldiers carried any money to give the dam-sels. Immediately he removed the quiver from his back and gave each of the damsels the golden piled arrow.

One of the damsels said that the man to whom they gave water must be Maan, Son of Zaidah.
