The Phaenicophaeus (scientific name) genus is comprised of the malkoha bird which is a New World bird found in the forests of Central and South America, and also South-East Asia and Africa. Approximately 15-17 inches in length, this bird has certain unique features, like a long tail, slender body, bare skin around the eyes, stout downward curved beak and short legs. Their movements are a lot like squirrels amongst branches, since their rounded wings do not make them strong flyers. To remain conspicuous they hop around branches and hide. Its diet is comprised of insects, but its favourite food is the hairy caterpillar. An average clutch of any species is 2-3 eggs, while the incubation period may vary among species. The IUCN listing for most species is the LEAST CONCERN.
