The Marfa Ghost Lights have been observed near US Route 67 in Texas, United States; they are glowing orbs the size of footballs in white, blue, yellow and red colours. They have been ascribed to paranormal phenomena such as ghosts, UFOs, or will-o’-the-wisp, etc. However, scientific research suggests that most of them are the atmospheric reflections of automobile headlights and campfires. Scientists also say that it is a superior mirage which occurs when warm air rests over a layer of cool air, like in the ocean when ships appear to float above the horizon. The requisite gradients for such optical illusions are common in Texas deserts.
