A young mermaid, Marinka, sat on a rock by the seashore enjoying the sunshine. A little girl named Posey came along with her bucket and shovel to play in the sand. She took one look at Marinka and ran away, scared. Marinka felt very sad as she wanted to be accepted by everybody. She wanted to dive below the waters and cry on her mum’s shoulders. However, she decided to sing a song instead. She sang a sweet little song about her wishes and dreams. She spoke of her love for flowers and games, just like Posey. She sang about building sandcastles by the light of the moon. Her beautiful song drew Posey back. Soon, Posey stood at the bottom of the rock and Marinka gave her a hand up to sit beside her. They talked and talked and became best friends. By thinking clearly and smartly, Marinka was able to find her own answers to her problems.
