The faithfuls of Sikhism hold different theories on the marriages of Guru Gobind Singh. Some believe that he married thrice. There are different opinions about the origins of his wives also.
But the historians believed he married once only. And his wife was named ‘Jeeto’. After the marriage the family of Guru Sahib started calling her ‘Sundri’.
Later, a follower of Guru Sahib brought his daughter ‘Sahib Deewan’ to him and revealed that the girl had by heart and spiritually accepted him as her husband. She was so taken up with her fetish that no one else would agree to marry her. In that situation Guru Gobind Singh had to accept her as his other wife. She did not give birth to any child. She considered ‘Khalsa Panth’ founded by Guru Gobind Singh as her own child. Hence she also came to be known as ‘Khalsa Mata’. Some historians believe that Jeeto and Sundri were two different woman.
Sons
Guru Gobind Singh sired four sons. The eldest one was Ajit Singh who was born to Sundri on 26 January, 1687. The other three were believed to be born by Jeeto if she indeed was different woman. Jujhar Singh was born on 14 March, 1691, Jorawar Singh on 17 November, 1696 and Fateh Singh on 25 February, 1699.
All the four sons sacrificed their lives during Guru Sahib’s own life time.
Ajit Singh : He was as brave and daring as Guru Gobind himself. He took part in all Anandpur Sahib wars.
He died while fighting the battle of Chamkaur Sahib. Then, he was merely 19 years of age.
Jujhar singh : Jujhar also was a valiant warrior like his father and elder brother. He fought the battle of Anandpur Sahib and went down fighting till the last drop of his blood.
Jorawar Singh and Fateh Singh : A confident betrayed the trust of Guru Sahib and sold his youngest sons to the enemies. The enemy, Moguls tried all tricks to make the young boys convert to Islam. They refused to oblige and bravely stood their ground. The Mogul executioners killed them by walling them in the most cruel way to deal death.
