British dominion didn’t take these evetns seriously. No need to explain that British Govt. was in pride of strength and that could go beyond limit to teach a lesson to Indians.
British Govt. girded up the plans after hanging over Mangal Pandey in Bengal that by any means after removing indiscipline a lesson should be taught to Indian soldiers. They selected Meerut cant for it.
On 6th of May 1857 ninty cavalay soldiers were ordered in Meerut cant to cut the cartridge by teeth and load it in the gun.
Soldiers refused to obey this order. Disobeying the command they were arrested and after court martial six to ten years of imprisonment was awarded to them.
Soldiers at Meerut cant were agitated by this judgement. All believed that something may happen at any time so they were ready to face consequences physically and mentally.
Secret meetings were held in Meerut Cant by that night and decision of revolution was passed.
Next day on 10th May with the sound of church gong mutiny bugle will playon, it was decided unanimously.
It was Sunday.
In the morning as gong in church rang for prayer soldiers turned out with their weapons.
First of all cavalry squad reached prison and freed their fellows confined there.
On the other side some revolutionary soldiers entered the city. City residents too joined the soldiers with weapons. Whosoever British they faced was killed.
British bungalows were set on fire.
Afterward two thousands soldiers reached Delhi.
Revolutionaries had fixed the entire programme in such a way that British could not trace it. They astonished when soldiers reached Delhi. After reaching Delhi revolutionaries elected emperor Bahadurshah Zafar their leader and mutiny started. Armed soldiers from Delhi cann also turned out and public too came out on roads with whatsoever weapons they could get. Each and every corner of Delhi echoed with the slogans against the British.
Immediately hundreds of British killed in fury of public and revolutionaries.
Most of the British escaped from Delhi.
People put down the fluttering Union Jack and hoisted green revolutionary flag. The news of Delhi victory spread like fire all over the country. Every Indian felt pride of it and enthusiasm of revolutionaries soar high.
Sight of Tatya
Leaders of revolution Nana Sahib, Tantya Tope, Azimullah Khan were worried knowing the events of Bengal, Meerut and Delhi. Their plan to commence revolution at a time on the same day had destroyed. Even then the sharp sight of Tantya was scrutinising the situation of entire country.
Azimullah Khan, Baba Bhatt and Jawala Parsad were busy in their jobs. They had made their preparations but plan of 31st May had dropped in.
From 16 May, 1857 to 30 May revolution bugle had played on at Nasirabad, Mainpuri, Etawa and Aligarh.
On pronounced date of 31st May mutiny began in Barreily, Muradabad, Shahjahanpur and between 1st to 14 June in Badaun, Jullandhar, Basti, Azamgarh, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Kanpur, Paryag, Faizabad and Jhansi. At most of the places British reign had abolished.
Kanpur revolution
Kanpur was peaceful by the time but how longer that could be. British power had been uprorted there too and the task was being done by Nana Sahib and Tantya Tope.
Wherever Brahmavart was the centre of All India Revolution at that same place Kanpur of the local revolution.
All preparations for revolution had been completed in Kanpur. Consent of kings and landlords also had been obtained. Secret meeting of soldiers with Nana Sahib and Tantya Tope were going on. These meeting were being held at secret places vigilantly so that British or their spies might not trace these sittings.
Along with that Nana Sahib had gained trust of the British. British came to Brahmavart were received open heartedly and there had been a theatre for singing and dancing to entertain the British. British used to present him valuable gifts. British had full confidence in Nana Sahib.
