Meteorite Crater

Meteorite-Crater

The Meteorite Crater is an actual meteorite impact crater situated in the northern Arizona desert of the United States. Formed about 50,000 years ago when the local climate was cooler and damper and the area was populated with woolly mammoths and ground sloths, the Meteorite crater was only discovered in the 19th century by European settlers. The object that is believed to have created this meteor was of a nickel-iron composition and said to be 50 metres across. The speed at which this meteor hit the earth was initially placed at 20 km per second, but later amended to 12.8 km per second.
