There are twelve sub-species of these sub-terranean mammals; a group of moles is called a ‘labour’! They can tolerate higher levels of carbon dioxide than other terrestrial mammals. Moles’ fur or pelts are like velvet; leather from its skin is prized (moleskin). It takes hundreds of moles to collect pelts for just one coat!
