Moral Conflicts

Satyaki and Bhurisravas were old enemies. Somadatta, the father of Burisravas, had fought for the hand of Devaki, Krishna’s mother, and lost to Satyaki’s grandfather who won her for Vasudeva. The battle between Satyaki and Bhurisravas was fierce. Satyaki had been sent to help Arjuna when he was returning exhausted after a battle with Drona. Bhurisravas had broken his chariot and weapons. He was in danger of being killed. Krishna, seeing the danger, asked Arjuna to finish Bhurisravas who was dragging Satyaki on the battlefield. Arjuna wondered if he could interfere between two warriors, but Krishna advised him to protect Satyaki who had been fighting to save him. So, Arjuna injured Bhurisravas. Satyaki, furious and wounded, beheaded him, before Krishna or Arjuna could stop him from attacking Bhurisravas. During the war, many rules were broken and many of the warriors had to face conflicts within their own minds about what was right conduct.
