The mosquito coil is commonly used in almost every home but the first time, it was invented by Eiichiro Ueyama, a Japanese businessman in 1890. However, such mosquito coils were in form of small stick bars which use to be burnt very soon, so were not able to repel mosquitoes for many hours but it was Eiichiro who continued to work on this to make it one of the most useful inventions. Later in 1902, he finally succeeded in preparing a spiral-shaped mosquito coil almost the same that we use today in our homes. Behind this invention, Yuki, wife of Eiichiro, must be given due credit as it was she who had suggested to prepare a mosquito coil in such spiral shape in 1895.
Mosquito coils use to be made up of mainly Pyrethrum, natural substance which was used as insecticides by mixing with sawdust in Europe and Persia even before the invention of the mosquito coil.
