Mother, the Gymnast

Mother,-the-Gymnast

Once, Claire and her mother went to a wedding. Claire’s father was unwell, so he stayed at home. When they reached home, mother rang the bell. But nobody came to open the door. Claire said, “Papa is at home, so why is he not opening the door?” “He must have taken his medicine and gone to sleep,” Mother said. “What will we do now?” Claire looked worried. Mother noticed that their bedroom window was open. She took off her shoes and put down her bag. Asking Claire to wait, she soon climbed up a tree that was right outside the open window. Then, she pulled herself effortlessly up the tree, walked across a branch and jumped into the open window! Soon Papa was up and Claire was brought inside the house. “I was a gymnast in school,” Mother laughed, explaining to her astonished family how she could climb and jump so well.
