Mountains

Mountains are the highest landforms on the Earth that rise above the surrounding plain area. Their elevation is at least 300 metres or more above the sea level. They are made from huge rocks and stones. The uppermost projected pointed part is known as a peak or summit. Mountains are generally arranged in a line called a range, which consists of a series of peaks and valleys. When arrays of such ranges are linked together, they constitute to form a mountain belt. Younger mountains like the Himalayas of India and the Alps of Europe are generally high and have pointed peaks covered with snow. Mountains are store-houses of valuable natural resources such as: granite, sandstone and marble, which are used as building materials.
