Mr Bunter’s Feast

Mr Bunter loved to eat. He ate large meals at home and when he went out, he did not know when to stop. People were scared to invite Mr Bunter to a party, because there would be nothing left for others to eat!
He was always late to office because once he settled down for breakfast, he would go though many loaves of bread, several eggs, bowls of porridge and many cups of coffee. He had no idea how long it took him to eat. He just ate and ate!
Mrs Bunter was fed up. There seemed to be no way to make Mr Bunter see any sense. It was bad for his health and it was very awesome as well! One day, she decided to make Mr Bunter realise how bad it was to eat like this.
In the village, there was an orphanage with thirty children. People were kind and charitable. But there was never enough for the children to eat a proper meal and they wore old and slightly ragged clothes. Mrs Bunter went to the orphanage and spoke to the Manager.
“I will give you food for the next one year. But you must help me cure my husband,” she said. The Manager asked her what he must do. The plan was arranged.

The next morning, when Mr Bunter sat down to his breakfast, he saw several small faces at the window. “Good morning, Mr Bunter,” they chorused and then vanished. As he began his porridge, he could hear the sounds of laughter outside. Curious, he went to the window and looked out. Playing in his garden were thirty raggedy children.
“Who are these children?” he asked Mrs Bunter.
“Oh, they’re orphans. They have no place to play, so I told them that they may play in our garden,” replied Mrs Bunter.
“Have they had breakfast?” asked Mr Bunter who always thought of food.

“Oh, no! They don’t get any breakfast. Only one meal in a day,” said Mrs Bunter.
Mr Bunter stopped eating. He thought for a while. Then he went to the window and called out to the children to come in. Mrs Bunter watched with a smile as the children settled down at the table and had a feast! Her trick had worked!
Mr Bunter was a kind man. He just needed to become aware of others who needed the food more than he. Now every day, he had a feast for the children. He was not so fat as he used to be. And he reached office on time!
