Mulla and the Store Owner

Mulla-and-the-Store-Owner

One day, Mulla Nasruddin was shopping for clothes and walked into a store. The owner of the store greeted him. “Wait a second,” said Mulla, “Have you ever met me before?” “Never,” said the owner. “Then how do you know it was me?” asked Mulla. “Everyone knows you, Mulla!” said the owner. Suspiciously, Mulla tried on a coat, and then took it off, and said to the owner, “Well, I don’t really want this. Take it and give me a pair of pants instead.” The owner did, and then on Mulla put the pants and began walking out of the store. The owner stopped him and said, “Mulla, you forgot to pay me for those pants.” Mulla replied, “But I exchanged the coat for these pants.” The owner said, “But you did not pay for that coat, either.” Mulla responded, “Of course, I didn’t. Why would I pay for something I chose not to take?” The owner was so confused that he let Mulla go with the new pants.
