Mulla Nasruddin had a baby and his friends congratulated him on the occasion. “Is it a boy?” asked one of them. “No,” said Mulla. “Is it a girl?” asked the friend. “Yes! How did you know?” asked Mulla innocently. His friends started laughing loudly and asked him to treat them. Mulla gladly invited them to his house for dinner that evening. He went home to tell his wife beforehand about the guests, and asked her to make rice and kebab. She said, “But we don’t have any rice or kebab. You forgot to buy them!” “Fine,” replied Mulla, “but can you at least bring me some plates?” She did, and when the guests arrived, Mulla presented the plates to them, and proudly remarked, “Friends! If I had remembered to buy rice and kebab earlier today, there would be a fabulous meal in these plates right now!” His friends repented for having come to his house in the first place.
