The mulloway is a silver to bronze-green fish growing to a length of 2 metres and weighing 30 kg. It has shield-like scales, a concave tail and a row of spots along the lateral line. Spawning is in marine waters just outside the surf zone. It feeds on fish, molluscs and crustaceans. Its lifespan is 30 years.
