Music at the Farm

Leopold played the violin beautifully. But he needed to practise somewhere quietly as he was preparing to go to a music college. He came to the countryside and found the best place near a stream that ran outside Farmer Bingle’s yard. It had willow trees and was so beautiful that he settled down to play. The music drifted over the stream and into the farm. All the creatures at the farm became still as the notes came clear and beautiful over the air! Even the trees and the flowers seemed to listen, enchanted. Farmer Bingle came out and stood at the door watching the young man playing the violin under the willow tree. He walked up to him quietly. “Where do you stay?” he asked, when Leopold stopped. “I have no home, sir,” he replied. “Will you stay on my farm?” And now the farm had music every day! And Leopold would go to college as well!
