My School Sports Day

Last Wednesday was our school sports day. I am keen on athletics and I was really looking forward to taking part in the sports. I don’t want to seem arrogant, but I can say that I am the fastest runner in the school.
I had been training hard all year. By the time sports day came, I was feeling really fit and had made good progress. At my last practice before sports day, I had broken my personal record by quite a bit. I was going to take part in five events. So I had the chance to win five gold medals. It would need a lot of stamina, but I was silently optimistic about my chances.
The first event was the high jump and I managed to win that without too much difficulty. Then came the two hundred meters sprint. There were eight of us in the race. I knew I had beaten all the other runners many times that year so I felt quite confident. But the race was harder than I thought and I just managed to win by a short distance.
After that came the long jump and I again won that without too much difficulty. I had a long break before the next race, which was the one hundred metres. When I heard the starter’s pistol, I ran as fast as I could. I didn’t look back until I finished the race. Gold medal number four!
The final event of the day was the relay. I was going to run on the final leg of the race. My heart was beating very fast when the starter’s pistol fired and the race began. By the time the third runner handed over the baton, we were just in front. I ran as fast as could all the way to the finishing tape. At the end of the race, I felt exhausted. Did we win? I didn’t know. It was only when my three friends came running over to congratulate me that I realized I had done it. Five gold medals!
