The Francolinusnahani (scientific name) or nahan’s francolin is an extremely rare bird found mostly in the lowland swampy forests only in some eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Also known as nahan’s partridge, this bird is small measuring only 9.8 inches in length. The legs, base of the beak and a ring around the eye are all bright red in colour. The plumage on the upperparts is brownish, while the underside plumage and the head are black and white. Its diet is comprised of invertebrates, shoots, seeds which it finds by scratching around leaf litter. An average clutch has 4 eggs which are laid in a nest 1-2 metre above the ground. Due to hunting and habitat loss, its IUCN listing is ENDANGERED.
