Once, a merchant set out on a business trip. On the way, he reached a Waterless Desert which was thought to be infested with narakas who were demons. Suddenly, a group of people came from the opposite direction and told him that he would reach an oasis soon. They advised him to throw away his water and not burden his animals. The foolish merchant did as he was told. However, he never reached the oasis. At night, the same people, who were actually narakas, came back and ate up his animals. Soon, another merchant set out for his trip. He met the same demons disguised as locals. However, he was wise, full of panna (wisdom). He did not pay heed to the narakas. Thus, the second merchant was able to complete his journey successfully and reap rich dividends.
Moral: Think wisely and do not trust everybody.
