Narwhals are toothed whales that feed on flatfish, Arctic doe and polar cod. The male has a tusk-like, protruding upper canine tooth. They are dark when born and become whiter with age, mottled in brown markings. They are 3.95 to 5.50 metres long and weigh 800-1,600 kg. They mate and give birth to one calf in 14 months. Their lifespan is 50 years.
