The Northern snakehead is a freshwater fish that is golden to pale brown with dark spots. It has a small, anteriorly depressed head and a large mouth with villiform teeth and large canines on the lower jaw. It feeds on crustaceans, other invertebrates and amphibians. Females discharge eggs over the nest, which are externally fertilized by males.
