Its diet consists of termites and ants. It has a soft-grey to reddish-brown coat, a red area on the upper back, white stripes across its hindquarters, cream or light grey underside and a tail covered with long, grey and white hair. It measures between 35 and 45 cm long including the tail, and has a finely pointed muzzle.
