The Old Cast-Iron Bridge was built in Spanish Town, Jamaica, in 1801. In the 18th century Jamaica’s House of Assembly passed an act authorizing the construction of a bridge between Spanish Town and Kingston. It is supported by 4 arched ribs that are fitted with cast-iron frames and reinforced with stone abutments. The Walker ironworks company manufactured parts for this bridge. It is one of only two Walker bridges that exist today.
Amazing Fact: The Bridge was to be made of stone. However, due to unknown reasons, the bridge was built in cast-iron.
