Old habits die hard

Origin
This is an 18th-century proverb.
Explanation
It is used for saying that it is difficult to change a way of behaving that someone has had for many years. Also, existing habits are hard to change. People find it difficult to change their accustomed behaviour. When you become accustomed to having something or doing something, it becomes routine and breaking out of this routine is sometimes very, very difficult. That is why it is so important that we guard our lifestyle and the choices we make. For example, if someone has been smoking since he was 16, and he is 40 now, and he can’t quit, or have difficulties quitting it or someone is used to lying and can’t stop, so it basically means that a person will have a hard time stopping a habit.
Example
Joan retired last year, but she still gets up as early as she used to when she had to go to work. Old habits die hard.
