Owl

Owls are the birds with round heads and flat faces.

They also make a unique ‘hoot’ sound.

They are famous for their wise appearance because of their big,
curious eyes which glow in the dark.

Owls are nocturnal as they will only be active at night and

are rarely seen during the day.

Owls are carnivores. They use their sharp beaks and talons to catch and eat
rodents, small mammals, fish, birds and insects.

Owls have super strong hearing; even they hunt mainly by sound.

The colour of an owl’s feather helps it camouflage or mix with its surroundings.

Owls have very flexible necks to turn their heads all the way around.

Most owls do not build their own nests; they just use an old tree-cavity or

another bird’s old nest to lay eggs.

Female owls are larger, stronger and more aggressive than male owls.

Owls can be very small like the Elf Owl (5 inches tall) or pretty big like

the Great Grey Owl (2 feet tall).
