Pacific krill are small crustaceans that are important food of baleen whales. They are 16-25 mm long, showing bioluminescent qualities. They have visible external gills, large black eyes and large abdomens. They filter-feed on phytoplankton, occasionally feeding on zooplankton. Females can release 20,000 eggs at a time in small clusters. Their lifespan is 6-10 years.
