Painted Cliffs

Painted-Cliffs

The Painted Cliffs are beautifully patterned sandstone rocks located on Maria Island, off the east coast of Tasmania, in Australia. The stunning Maria Island with the ‘painted sandstone cliffs’ including the ocean surrounding it has been converted into a National Park, that is teeming with birds, animals and marine life. But the impressive flora and fauna are dimmed in comparison to the beauty of the Painted Cliffs that are located at the end of the Hopground Beach. The intricate patterns were created by the ground water percolating through the porous sandstone, leaving behind iron oxide that stained the rocks.
