My password has six letters, but I pressed seven buttons (not including the enter button) and the computer still accepted my password. How is this possible?

I typed my six-letter password, and then I pressed the number (not a letter) in my password to log on.
Another acceptable answer would be:
My password had a capital letter in it, causing me to hit the shift key as well.
