Hatim, in order to discover the meaning behind Hamir’s words, asked him, “Why are you in the cage saying those words?” Hamir replied, “Greed does not leave easily. As my greed increased, the wise man befriended me I asked him to teach me how to see the hidden treasures. He said it was simple; he had a special kohl which when applied to the eyes, enabled the person to see what was hidden! I asked him to share the kohl with me and he agreed. He asked me to follow him to the mountain, where he would tell me his secret, undisturbed. We went to the mountain. There, he applied the kohl into my eyes and I lost my vision! He then put me in this cage and said that one day a noble man would come and rescue me. Till then, I should repeat, ‘Injure no one, because if you do so, evil things will happen to you’.”
