Peter’s Folly

Peter had run away from school and gone fishing at the stream that ran along Farmer Walter’s farm. He hated sitting in the class and listening to boring things when the sun and the breeze, the river and the flowers invited him outside! But as he lazily waited for the fish, Farmer Walter happened to pass by. Getting off his cart, he came and sat beside Peter on the bank. Peter was a little worried. Would he report him to school or tell his mother? “Any luck, Peter?” asked Farmer Walter. “Not yet,” replied Peter. “They are like us,” said the Farmer Walter, “They shouldn’t bite the hook, but they get greedy for the bait and bite. Then they know it’s too late!” “We too enjoy the sun and the freedom,” continued Farmer Walter, “That’s the bait. And when you’re hooked, you don’t learn much, do you?” Peter understood. He never ran away from school again.
