Pink-throated Twinspot

The Hypargos margaritatus (scientific name) or pink-throated twinspot is found mostly in the dry savannah and moist tropical shrub lands of the Southern African coast, specifically Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa. 4.7 inches in length, this finch is colourful. The plumage from the crown to the tail, including the back and upper tail coverts is brownish-pink in colour. The sides of the head, throat and upper chest are pink (brownish in females), while the lower chest and belly are black with pinkish white spots on them. The bill is pale blue. Its diet mostly consists of the seeds of grass, seeds of other plants and insects. An average clutch has 3-4 eggs. The incubation period, however, is not confirmed. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
