Once, there was a carpenter, Geppetto. He made beautiful wooden puppets but he was very lonely. One day, Geppetto made a little boy puppet. He also sewed nice clothes for the puppet.
Geppetto wished for the boy to be a real one. A Fairy heard his wish and waved her magic wand. To his surprise, the puppet started talking. Geppetto named him Pinocchio. Overjoyed, the two of them started dancing.
Poor Geppetto wanted to send Pinocchio to school. He sold his only coat for a spelling book. As soon
as Geppetto tried to send him to school, he ran away. Geppetto ran after him. A policeman stopped
Geppetto and asked him what the matter was. Meanwhile, Pinocchio escaped.
Hungry and tired, Pinocchio came back home in the evening. Geppetto fed him and put him to bed. The next day, he sent him to school. But naughty Pinocchio went to see a puppet show.
At the show, all the puppets were happy to see Pinocchio. He danced with them. At the end of the show, the owner gave him a few gold coins.
On the way, Pinocchio met a greedy fox and a cunning cat. They told Pinocchio, “Sow your gold coins. Soon, you will find trees of gold growing there!”
Waiting for the trees of gold, Pinocchio fell asleep under a tree. When he woke up, he found himself tied to a tree and the gold coins gone! He cried, “Oh, I have been robbed!”
“Every time you tell a lie, your nose will grow longer,” said the Fairy. Pinocchio felt sorry and apologised. The kind Fairy forgave him and advised him to go back home to his father. Pinocchio’s nose became normal again.
On his way back home, Pinocchio met some naughty boys and went to Toyland with them. It was a magical place. All the boys were turned into donkeys and thrown into the sea.
Pinocchio was also turned into a donkey. But he became his true self as he hit the water. A huge whale that was passing by saw Pinocchio and swallowed him.
Geppetto looked for Pinocchio everywhere, but he was nowhere to be found. He sold all his equipment and bought a boat, and sailed alone on the sea.
A big storm came along and his boat was torn into pieces. Geppetto ended up in the sea and was eaten up by a whale. Inside the whale, he saw Pinocchio. He was relieved to see his son.
Geppetto and Pinocchio wanted to escape, but the whale’s mouth was closed. Suddenly, the whale yawned and they rushed out and swam as fast as they could, towards the shore.
Back home, Pinocchio took great care of his father. He also went to school. One night, the Guardian Fairy came in his dream and said, “You have learnt your lesson. Now, you have become good; I will give you a reward.”
The next morning, Pinocchio had become a real boy. Geppetto was happy and hugged his son. The two lived happily together.
