Pinon’s Imperial Pigeon

The Ducula pinon or pinon’s imperial pigeon is generally found in tropical and sub-tropical forests of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (where they are hunted commonly). 17.0-18.5 inches in height, this mauve-grey coloured bird has slightly darker wings and tail. It also has a prominent red area of skin surrounding its eyes. While its beak is grey in colour, its feet are red. Mainly a frugivorous, it eats mostly fruits and berries. They are not very sociable creatures and are seen either in pairs or in small flocks. Its clutch has only 1 egg laid on a scanty nest made of twigs. Very little is known about how long the eggs are incubated. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
