The flowers are shaped like inverted vases and grow in clusters at the branch tips. The flowers are followed by round, reddish-brown to orange berries. Animals and birds eat the fruit. The fruit is edible either raw or cooked, but it is dry and mealy. The fruit is used to make jellies and is used as a diuretic.
